Description
Separate textile waste collection is a requirement under the new EPR system in the Netherlands. Municipalities play an important role in organizing collection, designing local policies, and piloting and implementing local-level solutions for circular textiles.
To fulfil this role effectively, municipalities should take a data-driven approach. This starts with an estimate of how much textile is in circulation, which can be used as a basis to measure how well the separate collection infastructure is working. A data-driven approach allows municipalities, textile collectors, and sorters to work together using a common language to measure progress. It provides a single version of truth for collaborating on where and how textiles should be collected.
These data include estimates of textile quantities put on market at the neighborhood level within Dutch municipalities, including estimated amounts of textiles and geographic boundaries to visualize the data. TEXroad uses these data, as well as waste generation figures and data supplied by the market, in our Data Hub app. There it serves as the basis for our users to evaluate textile management infrastructure, targets, and progress toward those targets.
